NAVISTAR INTERNATIONAL HEADQUARTERS

In 2011, Navistar decided to move forward with their idea to combine all their Illinois operations into a single campus with concentration on the Lucent Technologies campus. The existing irrigation system on the site was not maintained and was completely outdated. Navistar reached out to J.M. Irrigation to join the efforts in completely remaking the campus grounds. From the building facades to some 80% of the high profile landscaping, the campus would be completely redone.

Fortunately, there was an opportunity to reuse a small portion of the existing irrigation equipment and add new irrigation technology to the rest of the campus. The campus’ primary water source was a pond just to the east. J.M. Irrigation installed a custom built Watertronics Pump Station, complete with VFD drive and multiple control devices for greater efficiency. Next, more efficient irrigation heads and nozzles were installed to add to the new and improved landscaping.

Finally, J.M. Irrigation installed new Baseline weather based controllers to operate both the upgraded and existing landscaping. This simple tool allows watering rates to automatically adjust based on weather patterns, while simultaneously performing system checks remotely for continuous monitoring on and off site.

The J.M. Irrigation crew worked for three months on this project. While several changes such as retrofitting old systems and cooperating with other contractors who were working in conjunction with their team on a tight schedule presented challenges, they were seamlessly overcome. It was yet another project well executed and designed.
